Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, C.S. β€” 14th Bishop of Charleston

Born November 13, 1955 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Ordained priest October 25, 1986 in Brooklyn, New York. Consecrated Bishop May 13, 2022 in Charleston, South Carolina.

On February 22, 2022, Pope Francis appointed Father Jacques Fabre-Jeune as the 14th Bishop of the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina β€” the first Haitian-American to head a U.S. diocese. He was consecrated on May 13, 2022 β€” the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

A member of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians), whose charism is the pastoral care of migrants and refugees, Bishop Fabre-Jeune speaks five languages: Haitian Creole, French, English, Spanish, and Italian.

He incorporated a palm tree and the colors of the Haitian flag into his personal episcopal coat of arms β€” a proud, visible tribute to his heritage.

“My hope is to continue what God asks of me as a person of my gifts and to put that into service β€” to the diocese, and of course, that I will be accepted. That is a challenge for all of us.” β€” Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, C.S.
