Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune, C.S. β 14th Bishop of Charleston
Born November 13, 1955 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Ordained priest October 25, 1986 in Brooklyn, New York. Consecrated Bishop May 13, 2022 in Charleston, South Carolina.
On February 22, 2022, Pope Francis appointed Father Jacques Fabre-Jeune as the 14th Bishop of the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina β the first Haitian-American to head a U.S. diocese. He was consecrated on May 13, 2022 β the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
A member of the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians), whose charism is the pastoral care of migrants and refugees, Bishop Fabre-Jeune speaks five languages: Haitian Creole, French, English, Spanish, and Italian.
He incorporated a palm tree and the colors of the Haitian flag into his personal episcopal coat of arms β a proud, visible tribute to his heritage.
